Neuropsychological Services

A neuropsychological evaluation consists of a clinical interview as well as the administration of standardized measures which can provide invaluable insight to referring physicians, clients and their families with respect to the etiology of neurological symptoms, while also help guide providers on how to better address those challenges in treatment.
During an evaluation, individuals are “assessed” in several areas of cognitive and emotional functioning: attention, concentration, memory, language function, perceptual and visual-spatial skills, problem solving, processing speed and mood. Such assessments can be critical in understanding a person’s areas of strength and difficulty when diagnosed with such conditions as stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, chemotherapy related cognitive symptoms, or other neurological conditions. Information gathered can help individualize the suggested course of treatment provide better appreciation of the recovery, and in cases of a neuro-generative condition help better anticipate the course of illness.

Cognitive Rehabilitation

Our team commonly performs neuropsychological evaluations to:
Diagnose memory and attention problems;
Distinguish dementia from depression;
Differentiate the signs of normal performance from symptoms related to neurological conditions or learning difficulties;
Determine if there are cognitive side effects from toxic exposures, substance abuse, or certain medications;
Evaluate the cognitive impact of medical issues (e.g., seizures)
Assess a person's capacity or level of disability
Objectively document a person's recovery from a neurologic injury or illness
Determine the nature and degree of mood or other psychological challenges / symptoms
